Volkswagen T-Roc Review

The Volkswagen T-Roc is an SUV-style spin-off from the best selling VW Golf. Like many crossover-type vehicles the T-Roc is blessed with off-road style chunky design cues. The distinctive look features large LED daytime running lights and plastic cladding over the wheel arches and around the door sills to give it a more rugged look. There are a wide range of paint options, you can also add a contrasting roof.

There are plenty of engines to choose from in the T-Roc, starting with the 109bhp 1.0-litre TSI petrol, there’s also the option of the 1.5-litre TSI with 148bhp or even the 187bhp 2.0-litre TSI model. Trim levels consist of Life, Style and R-Line. The Life trim brings a lot of standard features. These include wireless phone connectivity, a ‘basic’ version of VW’s digital instrument cluster, two-zone climate control, parking assistance and high-beam assist. Style adds upgraded headlights and an illuminated grille, plus bigger digital dials, sat nav and tinted windows. The R-Line gets a sporty visual makeover and heated front seats.

A car that looks as good as the T-Roc has a matching funky interior. The sharply-shaped dashboard is more stylish than most other Volkswagen models. All versions come with a clear Virtual Cockpit and with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted as standard.

Storage space is impressive too. The T-Roc has a large centre cubby, space under the front armrest, wide door pockets and a big glovebox. You even get a drawer under the driver's seat on all trim levels. The T-Roc’s boot is a practical square shape, and, at 445 litres (392 litres in the four-wheel-drive variants), it’s slightly larger than the one in the Audi Q2 and the Seat Arona.

The T-Roc was tested by Euro NCAP in 2017, and earned a full five-star safety rating. Adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, a rear view camera, blind spot monitoring with a lane changing system, semi-autonomous traffic jam assist, parking assist and automatic high beam headlights are available, alongside emergency assistance in order to further aid safety.
