After the success of the electric CUPRA Born, the Spanish brand are expanding their electric range with the midsized CUPRA Tavascan.
So, what is the CUPRA Tavascan?
The Tavascan is an all-electric SUV Coupé that embodies a striking design and will be used as the template for the future electrification of the brand. Its name comes from a picturesque village located in the Pyrenees mountains with the most powerful version being equipped with a 250kW dual-motor, all-wheel drive system. It also features selective dynamic chassis control and progressive steering.
Originally unveiled in 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, CUPRA are taking the automotive industry by storm. They have an ambition to bring an all-electric future to market. Unlike many concept cars, the recently revealed Tavascan remains faithful to CUPRA’s original vision and haven’t monumentally tweaked the design.
The Tavascan’s exterior design is characterised by a sharp, angular profile and a bold front grille, while the interior features a spacious and futuristic cabin with advanced connectivity features and high-quality materials. The CUPRA Tavascan represents the brand's commitment to sustainable performance and is expected to be a strong contender in the rapidly growing electric SUV market.
What is the Tavascan Up Against?
Derived from Volkswagens sub-brand, CUPRA has some serious competition in the midsized SUV market. Some of its competitors include the impressively popular Tesla Model Y, newcomer Genesis GV60 and trusted Audi Q4 E-Tron. With an expected price tag of £40,000 - £50,000, the Tavascan also has a price to match its competitors.
With the new SUV due to arrive in 2024, we still have a while to wait before seeing how it compares against its rivals.
The Future of CUPRA
The CUPRA Tavascan signifies a major step for the electrification of the brand, expanding its brand and introducing future models to the already popular Born. It also joins the plug-in hybrid Leon and CUPRA Formentor.
Already unveiled by the brand are the Terramar and UrbanRebel. They are two exciting concept cars developed by the Spanish performance brand. The CUPRA Terramar is a sleek, futuristic electric coupe that boasts a 311-mile range and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 3.2 seconds.
It features a striking exterior design with sharp lines and an aggressive front grille. The interior is equally impressive, with a minimalist yet luxurious cabin that includes a digital cockpit and advanced infotainment system.
The CUPRA UrbanRebel, on the other hand, is a sporty, all-electric hatchback designed for city driving. It has a range of up to 260 miles and can accelerate from 0-31 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The car features a bold, angular exterior and a high-tech interior with a fully digital instrument cluster and touch controls for the climate and infotainment systems. Both cars showcase CUPRA’s commitment to innovation and performance and offer a glimpse into the future of electric mobility.
